THE BOOK OF LUKE!

Who is Theophilus or who might he have been?
--was a roman official in charge of pauls trial in rome.
How much of the NT was written b/c of him?
--a third.
Who is the author of Luke?
--luke is silly.
Without Luke’s letter to Theophilus, what would we be missing? (list it out) Also, what “word” would we be missing?
--the story of baby Jesus, the parable of the good samaritan, and the prodigal son. SAVIOR.
What does Luke 2:10-11 say?
--" I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The savior yes, the Messiah, The Lord has been born today in Bethlehem."
What’s the “Main Point” of Luke?
--Jesus has come to save everyone not just the jews.
When was Luke written?
--more than thirty years.

What is a “bar-mitzvah”?
-- one year before a jewish boys coming of age ritual.
Why did Jesus and his family go to Jerusalem?
-- The Passover Festival.
Where did Mary & Joseph find Jesus? What was he doing?
--in one of the temple courtyards. wowing the jewish teachers with his insights of the jewish religion.
How did Jesus answer?
--didnt you know that I must be in my fathers house.
Jesus already “seems to understand” what?
--that he has a unique relationship with his spiritual father.

--"Teacher, what should i do to inherit eternal life?"
How does Jesus answer?
--Love God with all your heart.
--Love your neighbor as yourself.
Conventional Jewish wisdom says neighbors include who?
--God expects Jews to love are other jews...not sinners and foreigners,
Sum up Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan.
--A non jew helps a jew whenever all other jews pass by and dont stop to help him.
Who ended up treating the man’s wounds?
--a non jew.
Why do Jews despise Samaritans?
--Because they are jews that go against their beliefs and marries an assyrian.
Who was a neighbor to the man?
--a samaritan.
What does Luke 10:36-37 say?
--"Yes, now go and do the same."

Describe the beating of Jesus.
--Jesus was beat after being stripped and then being tied to a pole. Then Jesus had to carry the cross on his back then he was nailed to the cross on his wrist and feet. The way they nailed him on the cross made it hard for him to breath and then he was speared to death.
Describe the “dead man walking” phase.
--Victim carries crossbeams to execution site and the crossbeam is attached to a pole the seat prolongs the torture making it easier to breath
Describe the “nailed” phase.
--iron nails pin wrist and feet to cross nails miss main arteries and bones wine laced with pain killing myrrh or frankincense is offered.
Describe the “breath of life” phase.
--position and body weight forces victim to push up and exhale breaking the legs speeds death it forces arms to do all the work Jesus dies before breaking the legs become necessary.
Describe the “speared” phase.
--solider conferms death by stabbing the heart by this time shock has started separating blood into two basic elements. water pours out his chest. possible cause of death a combination of shock exhausition, asphyxiation, and heart failure
